Use one of the following reading strategies to discuss what you have been reading in the past 2-3 weeks. The strategies are: making connections (to another text, to the world, to yourself, etc...), visualizing, ask questions, infer (use clues in text to draw conclusion), summarize.
Write at LEAST 6 complete sentences that show me that you've read - be specific about the chapters you've read and not about the whole book in general.

The book I was reading the book called The Making of a Navy Seal. A connection I have was when Brandon Webb during his training he was forced to stay swimming in the freezing cold water. A similair situation happened to me when I was at pier near my beach, I jumped off but sadly when I was in the freezing cold water, a boat was passing by blocking the ladder out. So I had no way out and was stuck in water for 10 minutes.
ReplyDeleteThis doesn't show me that you read the book. You give one small piece of information; that's not enough. Describe the scene w/ him in the water. Why did they make him do this? How did he feel? How long was he in the water? DISCUSS the book!
DeleteThe book I was reading in the past 2-3 weeks was Jim and Me. The kid in the book his name is Joe Stoshack but his friends call him Stosh. So Stosh has a special power, he can travel through time with baseball cards only the old ones. Stosh in this book went to see Jim Thorpe. Instead of going to see Thorpe I would go back to see Babe Ruth. I would go see him call his famous homerun shot to see if he actually called it. I would also see other famous players and get autographs that would be worth millions of ๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ธ๐ธ๐ธ.
ReplyDeleteThe kid's name in the book is Joe. (not: The kid in the book his name...)
Deleterun-on: "...power, he..."
He went to see Jim Thorpe for what? Who is Jim Thorpe? Why is your choice different?
In the past few weeks I have been reading Middle School the worst Years of my life. I made a text to self connection. The connection I made was that the main character was scared on the first day of middle school. I was also scared on the first day of middle school too because I thought I would be the shortest kid. I thought this because some of my friends got taller.
ReplyDeleteWhat was the protagonist afraid of? I need to know you read the book; I can't tell if you don't give any DETAILS.
DeleteWhen I read my book I.Look to see were I am, then I look for any words I don't know in that parragraf.Thats when I read but I might lose my place so I grabs my book mark and read sentence for sentence.when I done reading my chap. I look in the book for any games or comments from the auther and I do the same thing the next day
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what question you are answering? This doesn't answer blog 7 and it doesn't tell me anything about any particular book?
DeleteOn of the following strategies that I used was visualizing. It helped me because it gave me a picture of what was happening in the book. Without vizualizing the book would have made no sense. The book I have been reading for the past week or so was Beyonders: A World Without Heroes. It is about two kids who got stuck in a different world that was under the control of an evil man named Maldor. The first few chapters were about one of the two kids named Jason. Jason was a normal kid with a normal life until bam! He was working at a zoo and then he fell into the hippopotamus’ tank and it swallowed him. Then there was the girl, named Rachel and she followed a really pretty butterfly under an arch and she disappeared. They both ended up going on a quest to save the the other world that they got stuck in. They hoped that helping the other world they could get home faster.
ReplyDeleteSo what exactly did you picture? Describe what you thought it looked like when Jason fell. What did his face look like? Was he screaming? Was it a hard or soft landing? What were his thoughts? - Tell me what you visualized!
DeleteI am reading Fablehaven, a book about two kids who are at a magical haven for fairies and other mystical creatures. While reading about the naiads who try to drown people, I envisioned them beckoning like sirens in Greek mythology. You can only see the creatures if you drink a certain cow's milk which is like the Percy Jackson series in which only certain people can see the monsters. In the book, after a golem was destroyed I wondered if it would be revived and at the end it turned out that the fairies revived it. This book was like "The city of Ember" in the way that there was a time limit which in this book was Bahaumut, an evil demon who was destroying the haven.I recommend this book to anyone who likes fantasy books about mystical creatures. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/ five stars
ReplyDeleteNice connections. Don't forget to capitalize "City" in the book's title.
DeleteEven though I am not as tough as Katniss Everdean from The Hunger Games we do share some character traits. Even though I don't illegally hunt for food for my younger siblings, I take care of them when my parents are busy and I love them just as much as Katniss loves her sister Primrose. I also have a strong hatred for people who would enjoy watching people suffer. Even if it is as a punishment. When one of my favorite characters died because of those people I was probably just as mad and upset as Katniss who was very close to her. At the end someone who killed so many people was suffering because of mutations at that point he needed to be put out of his misery. Even though he killed so many people Katniss killed him so he didn't have to die because of the mutations. "In the end it was pity not vengeance that sent my arrow flying into his skull." This proves that even though he ended so many lives she forgave him as a favor not as revenge. Even though I would never dream of killing anyone even to put them out of there misery; I tend to forget what people have done and don't end up hating them and I think that is a good quality to have.
ReplyDeletefrag - "Even if it is a punishment."
Deleterun-on: "...mutations at that point..."
After "misery" you need a comma not a ;
Good detail from the book (use names next time) and good job describing how you are similar but different.
I'm reading the book Rules. Theres a girl in the book named Catherine. Catherine is the oldest sibling. She has a small brother named David, but sadly he has autism. She always has to babysit him and its a lot of work doing it. Sometimes she feels embarrassed the way he acts. She lives with her mother and father that work. She wants to have friends, but she's scared David will do something wrong to "scare'' them away. I make a connection to this book of my life because I also have siblings and I am also the oldest sibling. It's hard to take care of my two sisters because they fight and don't listen as much. One is in kindergarten and the other is in third grade, but I don't get embarrassed of them. I love my sisters, but they don't listen to me when my parents are doing something important or anything and when they put me in charge of them they don't listen as well.
ReplyDeleteTry to give a more specific example of something that happens in the book - not just how she generally feels. I don't want to feel like I read the back cover; I want to feel like I'm in the middle of a chapter.
DeleteThe book I have been reading Dreadful Acts. This book is about some one who dies and they don't know who died or who is the coffin. When I was reading this book I visualized the coffin but back then they did not have a hearse. So they had it in a carriage connected to two horses. They were trying to get the horses off of there land. But they would not get off or shoo they could not cause there not trained.
ReplyDeleteThe first sentence is a fragment.
DeleteSomeone is one word.
Who is the "they" you say are trying to remove the horses?
There vs their vs they're
run on: "...shoo they..."
Your visualization should give me ALL the details of the scene. What exactly did it look like? Faces, surroundings, horses, carriages, colors etc...
The book that I am reading is called: The Truth About Forever. This book is about a girl who has a long dull summer while her boyfriend Jason is away at Brian Camp. All she is doing in her summer is working in her boring job at the library. Evenings will just be drills for the SATs, and the spare time will be with her mother being silent for the loss of her father, but sometimes unexpected things like the catering job at Wish, with its fun-loving, chaotic crew. Or her sister's project of renovating the neglected beach house, awakening long-buried memories. Things like meeting Wes, a boy with a past, a taste for Truth-telling, and an amazing artistic talent, the kind of boy who could turn any girl's world upside down. As Macy ventures out of her shell, she begins to wonder if it really is better to be safe than sorry.
ReplyDelete...but sometimes unexpected things like the catering job at Wish, with its fun-loving, chaotic crew. - fragment
Delete-Can't start a sentence w/ "Or." - join it with the previous sentence to make a compound sentence; don't forget the comma before the "or."

In the three weeks l've read I have learned a lot about Gary Paulsen. When Gary was smaller he used to hunt big and small game. When Gary got older he started to trap beavers for the cities because the Beavers were a big problem. The beavers they would clog up the streams and rivers. That is how Gary Paulsens got into dog sledding because he would only get 20 miles apart from each other but some of this friends gave him dogs and a Brocken sled that's how he got the traps 200 miles from each other. That is a part of what I have read.
ReplyDelete-The beavers they would clog up the streams and rivers. - re-read this...
Delete- he would only get 20 miles apart from each other. - from who?
-no reason to capitalize broken (sp) - that's also a run-on sentence!
Trees. I read about trees. In the book it tells how trees change form in each season. In the summer the leaves on the tree are green. In the fall the leaves on the trees turn red, orange, yellow, and brown. In the winter the leaves fall off. In the spring the leaves grow again.
ReplyDeleteWhat book is this?
DeleteThe book that I have been reading is Jackaby and the text to self is that know your mistakes and take responsibility of them. What I visualized when I was reading this book was that when she had just moved ran away from her house to follow him and she got lost. How I can connect to this is when I was young I had done something wrong and my mom yelled at me. In anger I told her that it was her fault not my because she trusted a young girl like I was. So I ran away from my house and went as far away as I could. Luckily my friends mom found me and she told me that if Icame with her she was going to give candy I agreed because I knew her and also she wasn't a stranger to me but she left out the part that she was going to take me back to my mom. In the book Abigail escapes her house and that is not good but in the end she finally realized that she had done was wrong so she went and apologized to her parents as I I'd to my mom and she forgave me and I had understood my mistake.
ReplyDeleteRe-read for commas and run-ons. You also use "had understood" and "had done" instead of just the past - understood and did.
DeleteOne of the strategies I picked are the connection. The book I'm reading is Adrift and the connection is that I watched a movie called "Unbroken" and there were 3 army soldiers and their plane crashed. The plane crashed into the Pacific Ocean near Japan and Korea. In the book 3 kids Matt,John, and Driana take a boat into the sea and the drift takes them away and they survive out in the sea. Also in the movie they take out a boat and and try to survive out in the sea. Then one guy dies of starvation and they lay him on the ocean.
ReplyDeletegood :)
DeleteAlthough the book Running Interference is very interesting it has kept me guessing throughout the book. I have many questions about the main character Tim's future. One of my questions about Tim's future is, will he play football up to his full potential? I'm asking this question because i feel like his diabetes will get in the way of him playing. Also I don't think his coach wants him to get hurt. That is one of the many questions I have about the book Running Interference.
ReplyDeleteMake sure to capitalize the word I.
DeleteSay a little more about why you predict this. Explain what problems he's had so far w/ his diabetes or why you think the coach is hesitant.
The book I'm reading is the lemonade war. The protagonist Jesse and Evan were talking at home. Thinking what to do befor schools starts. Evan dose not like Jesse ๐ก Jesse did not let it get to her. She still loves Evan has a brother but later.... They went to see what classes they have and they are in the same class. Evan thought it was unfair when they got home. Jesse wonders where Evan is she some him in the garage with his friend making a lemonade stand. She got surprised ๐ฎ. If I hade to say this book is ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ super stars out of/10

You need to re-read before you post. Read slowly!
I have been reading The Candymakers by Wendy Mass. The strategy I will be using is summarizing. In my book The Candymakers there is are 4 kids that enter a candy contest. Logan is all eyes set on the contest. Dasiy is cheerful and bright.
ReplyDeleteBlog 7 another text, to the world, to yourself, etc...), visualizing, ask questions, infer (use clues in text to draw conclusion), summarize. I am reading goos bumps creature teacher the finale exam it's about a kid named tommy and all his parents want him to do is win win win so they send him to a camp for winners the teacher is a monster in class she put a warm on all the students desks and said they had to eat them tommy ate his be use he thinks he can wi if he does but the test was not to eat it then the teacher eats a rat and swallows it and she is very mean and tells a kid that he tells that the only reason his parents sended him here was because they wanted him to win and to stop fighting with his sister this is like my life because I fight with my siblings a lot
ReplyDeleteJohnny - good summary, but you have almost no capital letters and NO punctuation! Each sentence need to END. Put periods!!
DeleteThe book that I read was Peanut. The main character in the book is Sadie. In the first chapter Sadie was talking about her allergy to peanuts. But the thing is that she is not really allergic to peanuts. She made it up only because she wanted the medical bracelet. She wanted it because one day she saw a girl that had a medical bracelet and she asked that girl where she had gotten it. At first Sadie didn't know that it was a medical bracelet, she only thought that it was a bracelet. Sadie thought that it was so cool that when she went home she went onlojne and she ordered a medical bracelet for a fake peanut allergy. A few days later and the bracelet came in the mail. Her mother saw the package on the floor and she yelled to Sadie if she was expecting a package and Sadie came running downstairs to get the package. She went straight to her room to open the package. She opened it and immediately she put the bracelet on. Then after a few seconds of having it on the took it off and hid it in her drows because she didn't want anyone finding out that she had a FAKE allergy. On the first day at her new school she was at how room and she sat next to some girls and the girls were talking a lot about other people. Sadie introduced herself and the girls were acting a little rude. The hoomroom teacher was introducing himself to the class and her was VERY stiricked and he had a lot of rules. As the day went by it was already time for lunch and she was waiting in line and she was a few spots ahead the two girls she meet in home room. She had heard them talking about other people again. She was getting so annoyed with them that she was thinking that's she wanted to grab the by the neck to choke them because she was getting REALLY annoyed with them. When it was finally time to get her food in line she had aske the lunch lady if any of the food had peanuts or peanut oil in it. The lunch lady asked why she was asking if there was any type of peanut in the food and Sadie explained to her about hew allergy. That is abvout the first chapter.
ReplyDeleteGood summary. There are a few places where you need to edit and read your writing more carefully.

ReplyDeletePhilip is interested on contest. Miles is inspired in the contest too. All of these 4 kids battle and try to focus but with all the candy around them they can't. All 4 have to create a candy better than Oozing Chrunchorama and Neon Yellow Lighting Chew. Whatever they use or make to make the candy, it has to be good.

DeleteI'm reading the book Flying Solo by Ralph Fletcher. In chapter one: 7:03am Rachel White, Rachel was reading a book in bed waiting until the last minute possible to put the book and get up. Her mom then called Rachel to hurry up. Rachel then looked around her room and looked at all the posters in her room and thought" hard to believe that they all had to go to school too.'' Rachel didn't like school for the last six months the only thing she did like about school was Mr.Fabiano her teacher. She thought he was the best teacher he was smart, funny, simply gorgeous. At school there use to be a boy named Tommy Feathers, Tommy would always stare at Rachel he was really nice to her.Tommy would always try to give Rachel cards, stories, and seashells. Tommy was so nice to her that he once brought a big raspberry pie that he made at his parents bakery. He brought the pie for everyone but he gave Rachel the biggest piece of pie.Rachel tried not to be mean to he but he always got on her nerves. Tommy was staring at her again while also looking at the pie. "I don't like sweets" she said to Tommy. Then after school Tommy went to Rachel's house he brought her a whole piece of pie and again Rachel was mean to him and told him that she didn't like pie. The next day Missy called her and told Rachel that Tommy Feathers died while sleeping. After that day Rachel has never talk to anyone not her best friends and not her mom or teacher Mr.Fabiano. And that was all that happened in chapter one that is my favorite chapter by far.
ReplyDeleteSounds like an interesting story.

One of the strategies I am using is summarizing. In the beginning of the book the main character Harriet pretends to be sick so she can't go to The Birmingham Clothes Show with her friend Nat, but she ends up going because the person was going with got sick. Once they were on the bus Harriet's (stalker) Toby throws up on them and ruins Nat's chance of being discovered by model agents. When they got off the bus they had to change into gym clothes. When they got inside Harriet and Nat went to a rack full of hat but out of no-where Nat darts off and leaves Harriet alone. After Nat leaves Harriet gets in trouble for touching the hats then ends up breaking a hat and tipping over the whole hats section. As a result Harriet gets taken outside by Wilbur, but she thinks she's being arrested.

In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Harry has been attacked by 2 dementors along with his "muggle" cousin Dudley, he had to use the Patronus charm to repel the dementors away. Later Harry forms the D.A.(Defensive Arts or "Dumbledore's Army") which he is the teacher of and teaches other students some defense against the dark arts spells and jinxes. Farther in the book 12 Death Eaters escape Azkaban and rejoin Voldemort to kill all "mudbloods". ReplyDeleteNice detail, but too many run-ons. Can you find them?
DeleteI have been visualizing. The new book that I started to read is great. I have been visualizing all the foolish things he'd done. Like when he said, "Our fans are great; our team is nifty! We're going to get blown out by fifty!" I could visualize it perfectly. I can remember visualizing it: Donovan Curtis had grabbed the mike, flipped it on, and said those words.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the book? What do you picture? Does he jump up and down? How does his voice sound? What is the reaction of others? What does that reaction look like?
DeleteThe book I've been reading is All the Answers. In the book Ava, the main character, finds a pencil that tells her the correct answer to any question she writes down. In the middle of the book it tells you that the pencil has Ava's dead grandmother's soul in it. Her grandmother doesn't like answering to questions about Ava's grandfather and her grandfather always gets nervous from talking about his dead wife. Ava's mom hates her father in law, and she doesn't like it when Ava goes to visit him, so I can infer that something bad must have happened to them before she died. I thought that it could be something related to Ava, since her mother doesn't want her to go visit her grandfather.
ReplyDeleteSeems like a good inference.
DeleteYou say her grandmother doesn't like answering questions - isn't she dead?

DeleteThe book that I finished reading is called Smile by Raina Telgemeier. The story starts off when Raina is 11 years old, in the sixth grade. While she was racing back home with her friends after Girl Scouts. Raina trips and knocks out two of her front teeth. As you may remember Raina is in sixth grade which means she is scared of being bullied. After that tragic moment she got her braces.

DeleteStolen Childern ~ Peg Kehret. I made a connection from my book to a movie I was watching called, Pretty Little Lairs. Both include mystery and by mystery I mean they both have to do with someone missing. For example: in my book a girl named Amy is babysitting a 3-year-old girl. Her name is Kendra. Amy puts Kendra to sleep. Meanwhile, Amy explored the house it was really cool. When Amy returned Kendra was missing! Amy tried to use any clues she could find! Sadly, the only thing she found was Kendra's cat toy, Tubby. On the other hand, Pretty Little Liars are 5 friends, Emily, Aria, Spencer, Hanna, Alison. One summer day, Alison goes missing! ~ Emely Montoya Ixcatcoy
ReplyDeleteNice transitions! Give me more detail about PLL.
DeleteMY CONNECTION TO MY BOOK WAS when I was a little boy I have a selling contest with my scouts and I really wanted the first place prized. So I went selling and doing work for people for money I won and I still have my prize. A big flatscreen. The connection is my character is selling warm fuzzies for a big grand prize so he sold them and did housework for money. Eventually he made enough money to win the grand prize which would be a custom skateboard. In conclusion me and my character had to sell/work for money to get a cool prize.
ReplyDeleteNice! The connection is great, but you need to re-read and check your grammar!
DeleteRecently, I have been reading the Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster by Bobby Henderson. This book is about the principles of Pastafarianism (a.k.a. FSMism). Pastafarianism is a religion based around the worship of pasta and the belief in the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Some questions I asked were things like, "is Pastafarianism right for me?" Another question I had was, "How many Pastafarians are there?"
ReplyDeleteThese are somewhat obvious questions. You are also supposed to explain what made you wonder about these things. Did you get answers?

In my book The Fallout Eli and Eddy are finally back together in chapter 3 and Phil is missing right away (I don't think I said who Phil was it was Eli dads best friend that new they were stuck in the fallout shelter).Eddy starts crying because he was the person who took care of him and his grandma in Hawaii far far away from his farther company and the fallout shelter.Chapter 4 , Eli was getting use to the new food he was eating more and stopped eating MRE (MRE means meal ready to eat they are mostly use in wars and for solider). And for some reason he was really joules that. Eddy had all these old cloths that were worn out and had hole in them and he had brand new clothes that were not even touched. Most of the questions I have where why did his dad lock him in a fallout shelter then sent his other son to Hawaii if he wanted him to run business.
