Describe one conflict, either external or internal that a character in your book is having. Explain in detail what the problem is and how the character is working towards solving it. Tell if the problem is solved. Use at least 6 sentences; check your spelling, check for run-ons, etc...
The conflict in the book The Chosen Prince is external. The problem is that he got illness a called the summer sickness. The summer sickness spread around the kingdom and lots of townsfolk got it. The main character Alexos gets the summer sickness and his legs did not take it very well. So he has to use a cane and a big knee brace while he is standing or walking. The worse part about it is that he cannot run anymore. Running is one of his most favorite things to do. He is trying to do physical therapy but it really difficult for him because it is with his legs not his arms or another body part. I did not finish the book yet so I do not know how it is solved. I hope that the problem is solved by the end of the book.
ReplyDeleteNice post, Morgan.
DeleteThe book I am reading is " sisters " by Raina Telgemier the conflick in the book is that the sisters keep fighting. They fight over any or everything they do together or not with each other. This is an external problem for the both of them. They are working to solve this problem by trying to under stand each other's problem like the sister her name is arma she feels like she does not fit in at all. She said she feels like that all the time and the other sister the big sister Raina feels that she has to show off how great she is to her little sister or to her cousins.
ReplyDeleteAbby, capitalize the title of books. Also, look for run-ons. After the author's name you need a period. Where you say "like," it should be a new sentence, but don't start sentences with like. Use "For example, the sister, whose name is Arma, feels like she does not fit in at all." Only has 5 sentences.
Delete(I am reading a new book called "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix")One conflict that is external that my character is facing is the Dursley's. The Dursley's are Harry Potter's Aunt,Uncle, and cousin. The Dursley's are very mean to Harry because he is a wizard. One time Dudley tried to threaten Harry but Harry wasn't scared of him because they were at their house soon. My character is sort of able to solve this problem because he goes to a wizarding school called Hogwarts where there is always another problem. But Harry still has to live with the Dursley's during the summer.
ReplyDeleteThe Dursleys is just plural, not possessive. There is no reason to say Dursley's unless they owned something. Do not capitalize aunt and uncle unless they are part of their specific name, like Aunt Anne.
DeleteThe book I'm reading is The Mysterious Benedict Society. The character I'll be writing about is the main character, Reynie. His problem is that he can't figure out the answers to the tests he's going through. This problem is internal for two reasons. The first reason, is that he has no one to tell. He lives in an orphanage, and he has n friends there. That being said, he has no friends in the testing room either. The second reason is because they allow no talking in the testing rooms. The test had very strange and hard questions. For example, one of the questions shows a picture of a chess board. in the question they ask if the move on the board is possible. Luckily, Reynie is very good at puzzles. This skill shows in the last test. In the last test, the children have to figure out how to get through a maze of identical dark rooms. All of the tests cause another internal problem for the characters.
ReplyDeleteNice detail - the last sentence is a little unclear.
DeleteAn internal conflict that Mrs.Brook, Caitlin's councilor is having is getting Caitlin to learn empathy. This is a conflict because Caitlin, a student who has Asperger's Syndrome has no friends due to her lack of empathy which doesn't affect her but Mrs. Brook knows that friends will be important to her. An example of Caitlin's lack of empathy is when a girl was riding her bike near the middle school where a school shooting happened and she saw a police car going towards the middle school and she thought that there was another school shooting so she sped up. The girl was paying attention to the police car, not the road and she crashed into a tree. When she showed up to the elementary school, she walked into the classroom and asked a girl if her face looks good. The girl says yes, but then the girl walked up to Caitlin and asked her if her face looks good and Caitlin said that it was purple, swollen, and ugly. The girl stormed out of the room and Mrs. Brook came in. Empathy is trying to feel what other people feel and Mrs. Brook asked Caitlin, "How would you feel if someone said that to you?" "I don't know it hasn't happened to me," Caitlin replied. Caitlin doesn't know what other people feel because, "She's not them," which worries Mrs. Brook about Caitlin ever having friends. The problem isn't solved yet, but it might be later in the book.
ReplyDeletePaul, this is a very thoughtful reply. You truly understand both empathy and internal conflict. There are one or two places that could use commas, and you also switched to the present tense once or twice. Overall, excellent.
DeleteIn my book, the main character is Hattie. A conflict in my book is that Hattie has an uncle named Adam. Adam is mentally challenged. Hattie didn't know Adam existed until her parents told her about him and how he went to a special school. Hattie's nana thinks that mentally challenged people are a disgrace. Hattie loves adam and knows he needs love and attention but she doesn't understand how her nana can think that about Adam. I think this is external. It wouldn't be internal because Hattie isn't thinking in her mind, she's talking about Adam and her nana. I haven't finished reading the book, but I think the conflict will be solved by the end of the book.
ReplyDeleteCapitalize Adam.
DeleteThis is internal - the line "she doesn't understand" is a clue that this a problem she is working to solve in her mind. Nana is causing her problem, but Hattie isn't doing anything to work against Nana (as far as you've said.) So far, you've just said she is struggling with this inside.
The book I'm reading is called Sure Fire. An external problem my main characters(Their twins) are having is that they have to live with their long lost dad the left them before they were born. Now since their mother is dead, their stuck with him. They refuse, but have to since their mother never got an actual divorce against him. They get angry in the beginning but later find a letter written to their dads exact apartment, but had a different legal name that was the total opposite of the twins dad. They start realizing they have no one to trust. So they start being real careful about their choices and try to escape their "dads"??? Crazy lier world.
ReplyDeletetheir vs there vs they're
DeleteThey refuse what? But they have to what? - write more specific sentences.
Dad's exact apartment, and the twins' dad both need apostrophes!
The book I read is called The School of Fear. In this book, Garrison Feldman, one of the four main characters in the book, faces an internal problem. His problem is that his parents are very proud of him. Garrison's father thinks that Garrison should be able to master all kinds of sports. And his list includes swimming and surfing. Garrison is naturally goos at sports, but he thinks he will never be good at those two because he is hydrophbic, and has the fear of water. His parents send him to a school called the Scool of Fear to get rid of his fear, but the headmistress of the school, Ms. Wellington, doesn't teach him anything besides fake and useless beauty queen things. In the book, Garrison is desperate to prove himself to his father, and not let anyone at his real school to know the fact that he is hydrophobic. Throughout the whole book, Garrison struggles to over come his fear, but he never really does, even though he gets better at controlling himself in public.
ReplyDelete"And his list includes swimming and surfing." - this is a fragment and needs to be joined to the last sentence.
DeleteOvercome is one word.
I finished the book I even funnier. Jamie dealed with an external problem and this problem is that his uncle Frankie had a hard attack. It all started when Jamie and his uncle were coming back from lunch and on the way home Uncle Frankie had a hard attack. This happend because his uncle was eating to many fatty foods and after a while his body couldn't take it. This problem is solved because his uncle ends up surviving but Jamie has to forfeit his contest but later in the story he gets invited back to try to get into the semifinals.
ReplyDeleteBook titles need capital letters!
Delete"dealed" is not a word - dealt
It is called a heart attack, not hard.
to, two, too
The last sentence is a run-on that actually lacks information. What contest?
One conflict the character Catherine had was that she had a verbal fight with her friend Jason. The fight all started because Jason asked Catherine if she wanted to go to the dance with him, and when she said no Jason got mad because he thought that she was embarrassed of him cause he couldn't talk, and that he was in a wheelchair. What Catherine is doing to solve it is that she goes to the dane and invites Jason to see if he come, and if he does shes going to try to tell him why she really didn't want to go, and if he forgive her. This conflict is an external problem. This is about the book Rules by Cynthia Lord.
ReplyDelete"Cause" isn't a short form of "because." - If you mean "cuz," you mean because.
DeleteLots of missing letters in your words.
The new book that i'm reading is Al Capone Does My Homework by Gennifer Choldenko the conflict in the book is that Moose's house is on fire. This problem is an internal problem for Moose because everyone is saying that Natalie is the one that caused it. Natalie is autistic the only thing that she is good is at math. The problem is solved, but what they said to Moose isn't.
ReplyDeleteThe first sentence is a run-on. Where does it need a period?
DeleteRun on: Natalie is autistic. The only thing that she is good at is math.
How is the problem solved? Don't leave the reader (me) confused at the end.
Is this internal because Moose doesn't believe it? What is he struggling with?
The book I am reading is called Theodore Boone the Abduction. This is an internal problem for my main character Theo who his problem that his friend April, has gotten kidnapped. Theo has been trying to figure it out the whole book so far. I have finished most of it so I know that he has been looking for his friend all over town. While going to a football game with his friend they were looking at pictures of sororities and Theo saw her friend in the corner of a room with her dad that had kidnapped her!!!!!!! So Theo had to sneak out with his uncle and he drove him 7 hours all the way down to UNC the college in North Carolina and Theo went in to a sorority group of 80 people and found her. The book so far is very good and Theo is starting to stop his internal problem. Connor Smith

ReplyDeleteLinda from the book Blubber is being bullied. Some girls named Wendy, Jill Brenner, Tracy Wu, and some other girls are bullies. When Linda is doing her project on blubber, the girls are class is passing around notes saying, hey look it's blubber. When ever she gets off the bus the girls say here comes blubber. One day the girls forced Linda into the bathroom to undress her to embarrass her. Linda cries and doesn't come out for the fun on Halloween night. This is an internal problem for Linda. This Problem is not solved.
This isn't really an internal problem. The problem is external - the girls vs Linda. It might become an internal problem as she feels bad about herself, but when it's a result of other people, the problem is actually external.
DeleteThe book am reading is The River by Gary Pauline. Brains problem is internal. First he is still deciding if he should stay or go into the wilderness again.(So that is the internal problem) Derek the government man said,"if you go you will save 1,000s of people that got into the accident you got into or worse" .Brian still saying,"no" with his mother but then he thinks,"if it helps people i'll do it".His mother turns to him saying,"are you crazy" "if it will help people that need help, yes",Brian says Derek interrupts saying "Brian will be safe the whole time if in trouble he will have a radio".his mom finally agreeing.Would you risk death to help others?
ReplyDeleteI rate the story so far 3.5 because it was a good internal problem but not much happening other wise.
Brian's problem needs an apostrophe.
DeleteCapital letters!
Also, are these really exact sentences from the book? If they are quotes, fine, but if not, don't put them in quotation marks. For example say, Brian thinks that if it will help people he will do it. His mother thinks he is crazy, but Brian decides he wants to do it if it will help other people. Derek also assures the mom that he will be safe because they will have a radio.
Do you see how this makes it unnecessary for quotes?
Miles from the book The Terrible Two is trying to be the school prankster. But there is a problem, a boy named Niles is already the school prankster. Miles tries to do a prank on the whole school, but Niles had to sabotage it. Miles was so close to pranking the whole school, but only one person didnt fall for it. Niles. Niles had all the gifts and he was still the school prankster. Miles gets really mad because there was 1 gift left, when he opened it it was a rubber chicken with a note that said,"You have been pranked!" From Niles. This an internal problem for Miles. He has still not gotten to be the school prankster.
ReplyDeleteThis is the same entry that you wrote in blog #1. You need to pick a different conflict from LATER in your reading.
DeleteThe book I'm reading Nest by Esther Ehrlich is internal conflict because this is emotional because during the end of the book Chirp's mom dies because she want go for a swing near the lake and she drowns due to her symptoms she has.
ReplyDeleteThis is one big run-on. Re-read what you wrote. What symptoms does the mom have?
DeleteIt is not 6 sentences.
What does she do to deal with her emotions? Is this a problem she can solve?
The book I have read is called The Reluctant Assassin by Eion Colfer. The antagonist Garrick is trying to kill Riley, his former apprentice and Chevie, an FBI agent. This problem is an external problem for Chevie and Rily because they could be killed. Riley and Garrick are from the18th century and Chevie is from present day. Garrick chases them to the present and back, killing many people in the process. Eventually, The Riley and Chevie trap Garrick in a wormhole and I am reading the sequel and so far Garrick hasn't come back yet.
ReplyDeleteGood.
DeleteThe book that I am reading is Called "West of the Moon" . The conflict in this book
ReplyDeleteis that when her aunt sells her to a cruel goat farmer.Astri is separated from her little sister for the first time since their father left to seek his fortune in America. Astri is trying to escape from her horrible life. Now she is headed with her sister to America to be together with their father. She has with her a troll treasure, a book of spells and curses, and a possibly magic hairbrush, their company soon includes a mysterious companion who can spin straw into gold. With the mean "goatman" in pursuit, they head over the Norwegian mountains, through the field and forest, and in and out of folktales and dreams. Now after her running away from Mr.Goatman she is finally in America trying to find her father. This problem is external problem because when she escapes she does not feel it inside she feels it outside instead.
Don't put book titles in quotation marks.
Deletefragment: "The conflict in this book is that when her aunt sells her to a cruel goat farmer." - When she does that WHAT???
run on: "...magic hairbrush, their company soon includes..." - That comma needs to be end punctuation or include a FANBOYS after it.
External vs internal isn't always about where you "feel" the problem. Internal is "felt" inside. External means you are battling something outside of yourself. Something other than your own mind is giving you a problem.
In The Hidden Staircase Nancy is facing an external problem. While she is solving a scary mystery she discovers that her father was kidnapped by people that are working against him. This is also an internal problem because she is constantly worrying about him.
ReplyDeleteNeeds more details. The post specifically asks for at least 6 sentences! What is the scary mystery? How is she working toward a solution?
DeleteThe book I read is called, Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, Book 1: The Sword of Summer and it is written by Rick Riordan. The main character, Magnus Chase, has an internal problem. He doesn't know if he truly belongs in the ranks of the einherjar, seeing as he thinks he did not die a heroic death, but luckily, by the end of the book, he decides that he will stay in Hotel Valhalla to fight in Ragnarok.
ReplyDeleteThis is not 6 sentences that nicely describes the problem in detail. What is the "einherjar?" Why does it matter if he died a heroic death? Why is it lucky that he stays in the Hotel Valhalla? Who is Ragnarok?
DeleteYou need to write this to me, explaining as you go, assuming I have not read the book!
I'm reading the book The Miserable Mill by Lemony Snicket. The three Baudelarie's Viloet ,Klaus, and Sunny face an internal problem. They are scared that Count Olaf is around to steal their fortune. They are trying to fix the problem by trying to find him. So far they haven't found him and they fear that he's around. Will they ever find him,if so where?
ReplyDeleterun on - should be: "Will they ever find him? If so, where?"
DeleteMore details - this isn't at least 6 sentences.
I am reading Countdown written by Debrah Wiles. One conflict in the book was when Franny wanted to have some peace away from her own friends. But the problem is that her friends can't stand without her friend Franny. The reason why she wants some peace is because their is a lot of motion going on in her own family. It is because her big brother is all ready taking off to collage and her parents are nervous for the crisis that is happening. So Franny just wants some alone time by her self. This is a external problem for Franny.

Delete"motion" going on in her family? Commotion?

herself is one word
What is external about this?
My book is a creature of moonlight it fic it's about a girl who escape into the forbidden woods do it for one reason freedom.
ReplyDeleteI this this is blog 1? Either way it's far too short! You don't really answer the question. It asks for a 3 sentence summary and a rating. You need to spend more time on your work.
DeleteIt's also grammatically incorrect. Capitalize the title of the book and use periods!
Ribsy, from the book... Well, Ribsy, is a messy dog. He has ruined his families car, or what the narrator has called it, "station wagon" a lot. But then the family gets a new car, but the mother doesn't want him to go in it. But he does, when the family goes to the supermarket. But at the store, Ribsy accidentally gets left behind without the family knowing. When they find out, they go back, but Ribsy is not there.
ReplyDeleteRibsy is lost and he does not know how to get home, and Henry, the kid in the family and also the youngest, and loves Ribsy, is devastated. But, where was Ribsy, in a the wrong station wagon at the wrong time with wrong children. The wrong children take Ribsy home with them, begging to keep him. Ribsy ended up going to their house. The children try to give him a bath, but Ribsy hates water. Ribsy refuses to go in the tub. The children are grabbing him and holding him still, but when Ribsy is free, he runs out the door and makes a mess. There us still a lot more to the story, but the problem is solved when the Huggins family,(forget to mention Ribsy's owners' name was the Huggins) finds Ribsy on a fire escape, they save him and Ribsy is back home, unharmed, but very, very muddy and wet. This was an external problem.
If the family owns the car it should be: family's car
Deletegrammar: But where was Ribsy? He was in the wrong station wagon at the wrong with with the wrong children.
run on: "...finds Ribsy on a fire escape, they save him..." That comma needs to be a period.
Don't say "forgot to mention..." when yo are typing. You have the time and ability to go back to the beginning so do so, and put it in where it fits.
Explain why "this" was an external problem. Who had the problem? The family? Ribsy?
I've finished a book called Maniac Magee. Maniac has an internal problem. His problem is that he doesn't like when people are separated. The problem is that they're ends and people are separated into those ends because of their skin color. He tries to go to each end to find out everyone's interest and try to bet them together. There is a corner that is on the border line of the both of ends. So he does that and everyone became friends.
ReplyDelete"...they're ends and people..." - this doesn't make sense.
DeleteEnds of what? This needs to be more specific.
So he does what?? This is confusing.
Why doesn't he like when people are separated? Tell me a little about the character.
In the Book 9 of Bone The Crowns of Horns. Bone and Thore were in jail and Thore was thinking about here mom. She said seek the crowns of horns. Luckily Bone's brother come smily with a little boy came to help. When they came back they help Bone and Thore break free. While the rat creatures and locust were coming to the village and kill the villagers.Grandma Ben said we are not ready yet. I think it's external.
ReplyDeleteThe first sentence is a fragment!
DeleteYou need to re-read and check it over - you have here instead of her, "Bone's brother come smily" ????
"While the rat creatures and locus were doing to the village and kill the villagers" is a fragment.
Grandma Ben said she wasn't ready for what?
What is external? Who has the problem?
Spend more time on your posts.
In the book Hatchet, Brian has many external and internal conflicts. One external conflict he has in with the mosquitoes. He calls them “vampires” who are attacking him and sucking his blood. At first when the mosquitoes get him, he cries and tries to cover himself with his jacket. Later, as he learns more, he realizes that the bugs only come out in the early morning and the late evening, and he realizes that fire/smoke helps keep the bugs away. By getting fire and using his brain, Brian is working toward solving the problems the bugs have caused him.

ReplyDeleteMy book is an internal. My book is Vacation Under the Volcano by Mary Pope Osborne. Jack, one of the main characters has an Internal problem he has a secret library card. Morgan said that when the time comes there know what to do but that's what confuses him. He doesn't understand when/where it's going to happen. That's my characters internal problem.
"My book is an internal" makes no sense. In my book, the character is having an internal conflict.
Deleterun on: "...problem he has a secret library card." You need a period after problem.
"there know what to do..." ???
"when/where it's going to happen." - What is "it?"
James, this needs to be organized better. Give more details. Who is Morgan? Why is it so bad to have a secret library card?
A problem in my book, Wonder by R.J Palacio, is an internal problem. The problem he's facing is that people are judging his face & calling him names, especially Julian. Auggie/August is doing nothing to face the problem. He's just getting upset over it and not doing anything. Also, the problem isn't solved.
ReplyDeleteExplain who Julian is. What exactly is he saying? You need to discuss a specific scene. This is too short.
DeleteHiccupis having an external problem. He has to train his dragon by Thorsday Thursday. He also has to win a fight against Snotlout who wears bronze toe sandals for kicking, has over developed muscles ,and can beat the heck out of Hiccup easily. Hiccup is trying to solve the dragon problem by talking to his grand father for advice. So Hiccup tried talking to his dragon in dragonese. It worked but not very well so now Hiccup needs fish to feed to the dragon.

In the book Smile, Raina has many internal and external conflicts. One external conflict was that when she went to the orthidontist they told her that she is going to need braces. She needs the braces because she has an overbite. After the trip to the orthidontist she goes to her scout meeting. After the scout meeting she fell. She screamed "AAAAAAAA"!! Shortly after she screamed again saying "MY TOOTH"!! She dreamed that because she had knocked out her two front teeth. She is sent straight to the orthidontist so that they can cheek out her teeth. It turned out that she only knocked out one of her teeth and the other is shoved up her gums. The orthidontist and her family are trying very hard to fix her teeth. One way that they are trying to fix her teeth is that they had put some sort of cast on her teeth. That is only two of her external conflicts.
ReplyDeleteI dont' understand the sentence that says she dreamed that because...do you mean screamed that?
DeleteThat is only 2 doesn't make sense - "These are only 2 of her external conflicts."
In the book The Day My Mother left, the conflict is that Jeremy's parents are getting divorced, but that's not it his mom has a boyfriend which is why they are getting divorced. This is an internal problem because he is feeling sad and depressed so many things are going through his mind. What Jeremy does to solve this problem is he tries to think that seeing his parents is better than only living with one, and not being able to see one them is even worst. He also tries to think of positive things like he would finnaly have a brother who he can play with. When he is at school he tries to ignore people and focus on paying attention instead of hearing what other people are gossiping about his mother. The bad thing is that when he has forgotten about the situation the big thing comes up,and it is that his brother would be his enemy.
ReplyDeleteSo, his brother vs him will become an external problem.
DeleteI'm reading "Blackbird fly" written by Erin Entrada Kelly. The conflict my character is having is internal. The character is named Apple, but her real name is Analyn. The problem Apple is having is people in school, such as Jack say she is a dog-eater. They say that because they think she's from China, and because she has slanted eyes. Another problem is she is in the Dog-Log. At the beginning of the year a group of guys come up with the ugliest girls in school, and that's the Dog-Log. I'm starting the book, but I think Apple is going to solve her problem by being brave and defending herself.

DeleteThe book I am reading is southpaw by Rich Wallace. One conflict that the main character Jimmy Is facing is some kids on the middle school baseball team say he isn't going to make the team. I think this problem is internal . I think this because when the kids say he's not going to make it might get in his head. I also think this problem is external to Jimmy's feelings. I think this because he might think he's not good enough so he will do bad in tryouts. That is one conflict that I think is both external and internal.

DeleteIt might be in his head or it does? There is a big difference! If it's in his head, what does he do/think? This is what needs explanation.
It's not external "to his feelings." That doesn't make sense. If the boys' teasing causes him to do poorly, then the conflict can be external; the boys vs Jimmy.
