Blog #7

Use one of the following reading strategies to discuss what you have been reading in the past 2-3 weeks.  The strategies are: making connections (to another text, to the world, to yourself, etc...), visualizing, ask questions, infer (use clues in text to draw conclusion), summarize.
Write at LEAST 6 complete sentences that show me that you've read - be specific about the chapters you've read and not about the whole book in general.

Blog #6

For this week's  blog, answer the following question in at least 6 complete, edited sentences.

If you could give a piece of advice to any character in your story which character would you pick, what would the advice be, and why would you give this piece of advice?  Be sure to show me that you've read the book with details about what's been happening that would make you want to advise this character.

Blog #5

For this post, I want you to make a connection to your reading.  You can do text to self (your own experiences), to world (history, current events), to another text (book, magazine etc...), to a movie.
First, give a detailed description of what happens in the book that you want to connect to.  Then explain what you can connect this to and WHY.  Do not tell me a simple plot detail and say you've experienced the same thing.  Ex: Brian fell off his bike and I've fallen off my bike before too.  This is bad.  It's obvious, shows no thought, and does not show me you've read the book.  Do some DEEP THINKING!

Blog #4

Choose one (or 2) sentence/line/quote from this week's reading that jumped out at you as being really important to the story, its themes, its plot, characters etc...
Copy the sentence and explain why it's so important to the story.  What made you choose THIS one sentence?
Use at least 6 sentences (in addition to the sentence from the story).

Blog #3

Using the Lit. Terms 1 list (10 words), choose 6  of the words and apply them to your choice book.  Be sure to somehow include the definition of your word in your sentence.
For example: One of the words is genre.  One of your sentences can be: The GENRE of my book Hatchet is realistic fiction because the story is made up but it COULD happen.  Another word from the list is protagonist.  One of your sentences can be: The PROTAGONIST of Hatchet is Brian because he is the main character.

Describe one conflict, either external or internal that a character in your book is having.  Explain in detail what the problem is and how the character is working towards solving it.  Tell if the problem is solved.  Use at least 6 sentences; check your spelling, check for run-ons, etc...

Blog #1

For your first Reading Log Blog post, I just want you to tell me the name of one book you've read (or are reading) since the beginning of the year.  Give me a 3 sentence summary without giving away the ending.  Rate the book on a scale of 5 stars and tell if you'd recommend that your classmates read it.
Please sign your full name to your comment.

You will be graded for each blog on a scale of 1-10 as a homework grade.  This grade includes accuracy in spelling and grammar.  Underline book titles!  Capitalize and look up words you don't know in the dictionary.  Be sure to answer all parts of the question.
